I started looking for where on the net to get reproductions of classic paintings — I want to print them out and get cultured. But the whole world has been occupied by terrible copytards — all rights to the classics expired a long time ago, but museums still upload stamps 130x130 pixels in size. And the notorious Europeana is guilty of the exact same thing. The maximum is a picture about 800 pixels wide. Looking at that on a monitor is somewhat tolerable, but printing it is impossible. And if a picture is bigger, it's shown in an applet — so that visitors can't copy it. This is despite the fact that most museums are state-owned, meaning they're funded with our money. And yet they don't let us download them, the scumbags.
Luckily, a man previously unknown to me named Hannes Keller runs an Über site, where you can find, for example, all of Van Gogh in high resolution, or, for example, the notorious Mona Lisa.
As it turned out, this very Keller is famous for setting what was then the world record for deep diving back in 1962 - over 300 meters. But generally he was a physicist, mathematician, and an IT entrepreneur. And now, despite the fact that he's already 74 years old, he runs this archive, and also plays the piano and paints psychedelic pictures. As for the site, its 6 employees sit right in Hannes's living room, and the money for the enterprise is mostly his too. Something tells me that after his passing this whole thing will fall apart, and we'll be looking at stamps once again.
