There was a dog show in our town this morning, so I went to check it out, since Jerzy was there with his cousin and her mega-hounds, and I also needed to buy a wire to solder my Wiikey to the Wii.
The ticket cost 1.5 Ls. Seems cheap enough, but apart from the dogs, there was nothing interesting there – no one announced or explained anything, a sort of private get-together with medals handed out directly to the participants.
But the dogs were excellent – of all breeds and sizes, barely fitting in the hall. A real feast for the eyes. I would have liked to pet them too, but it's probably not very proper – running around and pawing at other people's dogs. So I only hugged Khasan, Jerzy's sister's dog.
The owner is in the background. And Khasan licked me so heartily that my glasses even fogged up
And he liked me so much that he even stood on his hind legs to get a better taste of me
And in the evening we drank tea with classmates. First we went to the dining establishment “Ukrainska Khatka”, which I had been wanting to visit for a long time. The prices are moderate, and the cheap freshly squeezed juice is especially pleasing. The decor there is tasteful, and the waitress was in national dress, with a national perky attitude, and even spoke, it seemed, with an accent.

In the “Khatka” I had borscht with a pampushka and the house special. The borscht was pretty ordinary, but a bit overheated. I liked the house special – cold meat with a hot sauce and my favorite vegetables on the side. I paid 5 Ls for this and the juice, mostly for the special.
Overall – not bad, tasty.
It's probably sad, but besides us, there was no one in the khatka. The crisis, damn it.
Our set meals have already rolled back to 2 Ls ($4) and even less. True, in the Vecais Draugs cafe, where I also went recently, and where the set meal costs a mere 1.40, the food is a bit mediocre, at least it seemed that way to me. Although one shouldn't draw conclusions from a single visit.
Kids' corner
We didn't sit in the Khatka for long, we went to Vesma to drink tea, good thing they have a nice selection there, and I love tea, and therefore often hang out there. I also like Vesma because the girls there wear beautiful uniforms, always look great, and are polite. Plus the entertaining large fish in the aquarium. And in general, the service and decor there, although unpretentious, are on a high level overall.
There will be no photos, because I'm shy about snapping pictures of waitresses. And I feel sorry for the fish – the flash can't be turned off, the camera is broken.
Here's an icicle for you instead, the kind that grows in multiples outside my window every time there are mild frosts. No wonder it's usually cold in my apartment. (Long icicles without a thaw – a place of heat leakage from the premises)
