I looked at my friends feed and got angry for some reason. One moment it’s pompous musings, the next it’s diary drivel. I don’t feel like reading or writing.
Actually, we’ve spent the last three days learning to play bridge. Something tells me that even fewer people on the planet are capable of playing bridge than the two percent capable of solving Einstein’s famous puzzle.
Odds and Ends
The heat has temporarily vanished - right now it's overcast and about 20 degrees Celsius. It just had to happen exactly on the weekend, when you want to go to a proper lake!
I received a paper letter from asena, written in reply to mine. It turns out, asena is actually named Asyona!
There's a lot of other interesting stuff in there too, but personal correspondence will remain a secret :-)
I'll just write in reply that I also remember a lot of not particularly useful nonsense. For instance, I know exactly what an endless number of computer-related acronyms stand for, like ICANN, GNU, TCP/IP, KDE, IEEE, ODBC, IDE, ATAPI, ISO/OSI, UCS, UTF, and on to infinity.
But the necessary and important stuff I often don't remember. So we are of one blood, you and I.
PC Cooling
I took the fan that came with my AMD Athlon 64 processor and adapted it to cool the hard drives. To keep it from humming, I connected the wires in a special way to lower the voltage to 7 volts instead of the standard 12 (the fan's red wire to the yellow wire on the power connector, and the fan's black wire to the red wire on the power connector).
The processor itself is cooled by a powerful and beautiful Zalman Cu7000 cooler (600 grams of pure copper, by the way)

The Net
An hour ago, while swimming, we snagged on a net. With great difficulty, but for absolutely no reason, we hauled it out of the lake. Inside the net were a few medium-sized crucian carps and a large rotan. A rotan is this vile alien fish that foolish people released into the lake twenty years ago. And it devoured all the others, because it has a very big head, and, true to its name, mouth.
And the net we hauled out belonged to someone else. Unfortunately, the owners walked up just at the moment we were carrying the net away, and started a confrontation. I'm not particularly timid nowadays, so I tried to explain to them that setting nets is forbidden. In response, the pumped-up meathead promised to send me to the hospital for a long time, to eat little pills. I really wanted to say that this time he'd definitely end up doing time himself, since they didn't give him any for petty theft last time. However, I was alone, there were two of them, and a broken jaw is a very unpleasant thing.
And still I worry that I'm not too brave. Because it's sickening to listen to threats from all sorts of halfwits. Besides, the fish in the lake have become really scarce. Now it's clear why.
