Cyprus — 7, Day 6, Troodos Mountains

Having rested the day before, I jumped up cheerfully in the morning and started pestering Rybakov: time to ride, great deeds await! Sasha wasn't expecting such an ambush from me, but he accepted my proposal with enthusiasm. The thing  is, for this day we had planned what was probably our most interesting route, and a rather strenuous one at that. From a fairly high-quality brochure on cycling in Troodos authored by the notorious CTO, we scooped up a circular mountain route. It's easy to grab this publication at the airport, and, frankly, at any infocenter.

Troodos is a mountain range in the center of Cyprus, with its highest point being Mount Olympos (basically Olympus, if we're speaking Russian), 1,952 meters high, where a British military base is still located to this day.

The route we laid our eyes on is divided into three in the brochure, and for good reason. Although the creators of the booklet, with their sparkling sense of humor, lay on such wonderful mush that I'll even quote it.

With my rich experience of eating all sorts of weird stuff like embryos and rotten sharks, I couldn't pass up such a chance, when else would an opportunity present itself.

Cyprus — 5, day 4, madness and courage

So, the very day had come. The choice is made, supplies are bought, the weather, as always in Cyprus, is cloudless, and we are storming 3.5 km of elevation (some of it on dirt roads, to boot). Back home, we decided that we would somehow manage such a task, inspired by a track called bezumstvo i otvaga, which features not 3.5, but a whopping 5 km of elevation gain through the exact same places we were heading to. I have no idea if some unknown biker actually rode it, but it's hard to believe.
