Vietnam — 6, a motorbike outing

The next day we were planning to go to Mount Fansipan (Phan Xi Păng), but it poured rain all night, and having gotten up at 4 in the morning, we changed our minds, deciding that everything there was soaked, and we wouldn't be able to climb it in a day as planned. So we crashed back into our beds to come up with something interesting in the morning.

Renting motorbikes and riding around the neighborhood seemed like just the thing, especially since rumor had it there was a waterfall and caves nearby. Motorbike rental cost 5 bucks apiece for the day, gas was a little over a dollar a liter, and a full tank was 4 liters. When I asked by what time we had to return the motorbike, I was told by 18:00. I didn't ask why, and this fact caused some anxiety.

A logical question from readers - why didn't we go on bicycles? I don't know. Personally, I find it interesting to try different things, and since we got up rather late, and wouldn't have made it very far on bikes before dark, I wasn't against motorbikes, but rather even for them.

By the way, I won't subject the photos in this post to any effects, but I'm curious to hear feedback about the previous one - is it worth continuing, or is it better to post them as is.

Several people, some wearing helmets, are standing among four motorcycles and scooters parked on a concrete pad. The scene takes place in front of a light-colored building with an open door, against a backdrop of other houses and lush vegetation.

Vietnam — 5, the resort town of Sapa

Pretty soon we made it to Sapa. I've been butchering the photos in Lightroom with my crooked hands here, purely out of boredom. I hope the psychedelic coloring won't be too distracting. Where it's important for the narrative, I tried not to mess with the colors too much.

Vietnam — 4, the road from Lao Cai city to Sa Pa city

Be it long or short, the train began pulling into Lao Cai city. We didn't really know what time it was supposed to arrive, so we woke up around 5-6 in the morning.

Lao Cai is located in the north, next to it is the resort town of Sa Pa, which is where we were heading. We wanted to go there because nearby is Vietnam's highest mountain — Fansipan, 3143 meters high. We were planning to climb it. The Brits from the next compartment, on the other hand, weren't aiming that high; they were just going to wander around the area.
