During the Soviet period, Lithuania’s population increased by one million—from 2.7 to 3.7 million.

"I think that after the restoration of independence, when Lithuania became an EU member, we failed to adapt. A catastrophe is looming. At the beginning of independence, there were around 3.7 million residents; now the Department of Statistics says there are around 3.4 million. But I’m afraid that after the new census, it will turn out that only 3 million remain," Truska said.

Entertaining - Diet

You asked about my "diet", so I'll write about it, good thing I've got a free hour.

A diet, in case anyone doesn't know, is simply a nutritional regimen. Diets can have different goals, not necessarily starving yourself to "skin and bones".

Wii Fit

Installed Wii Fit Plus PAL (i.e. the European version) instead of Wii Fit NTSC (the American one). Not only did they change the trainer lady's voice to Queen's English, so now she sounds like an old woman, but they also altered a bunch of the phrases. Like, before she'd cheer you on with "You're doing great!", and now it's a dreary "You're doing fine!". To me, it sounds like the level of praise dropped, though in reality it's just the cultural context that shifted. To me, "fine" in English means "okay" rather than "excellent," because I'm Americanized.

On the bright side, they added a lot of new (and hellishly hard) exercises, which is great.

Walk - Excursion to Vilnius

Yesterday we went to Vilnius, for a mere 12 lats, with the Mari agency. Absolutely loved it all. The guide wasn't bad, we checked out a huge and quite interesting fair, Kaziukas, where massive crowds of artisans sell their (and factory-made, naturally) crafts, bread, and meat. To keep people's energy up, they serve hot beer and snacks, or you could just pop into a local eatery, good thing Vilnius has a huge old town that's quite touristy.

We also saw the traditional Gediminas' Hill and Tower, and climbed the hill with the crosses erected in honor of the drowned Franciscans (nearby). The fact that the hills are high, and climbing them wasn't so easy, is nice, but it'd be better if they were about 3 times higher, that would've been even more interesting.
