As usual, you have to mess around for ages in Linux even over the simplest things. Well, probably because I have an old Linux - debian lenny. There were issues with autoconf, so I had to install git and compile from the repo.

And I even enabled generational GC, though it was a struggle.

Not Everything in the EU Is Rosy

The German newspaper Der Spiegel writes that the Galileo project—the European alternative to GPS—has already exceeded every conceivable budget and been repeatedly delayed (by as much as 10 years overall). The companies entrusted with building it failed, and the European Commission had to take over its management. Moreover, in the long term, the project will be unprofitable in purely utilitarian economic terms (not to be confused with its political and indirect benefits) and will require subsidies. Overall, it will cost taxpayers €20 billion over the next 20 years.
