It takes place in Sigulda, the declared goal being to unite cycling enthusiasts in Latvia (which is obvious from the name). The ride took place during Latvia's first independence, and the current one is a revival of the tradition from 1995. It's the most massive cycling event in Latvia.

I've been asked to write about my bike here. Can't say it's super exciting, but here goes anyway.

The bike is a sports-touring hybrid, Scott Sportster P4. A hybrid is a cross between an MTB ("mountain") and a Road bike. The wheels are 28 inches in diameter, like on a road bike or on old Soviet bikes, but the rims and tires are almost like on a mountain bike (well, narrower and not as knobby, yeah)

The plan was to check out the lakes beyond Kalupe, and take the train back. But the proud punk said "let's ride the bikes all the way", as a result of which we didn't see the lakes, but rode 100 km instead. It rained in the morning and towards the evening, it was also cold in the evening. Bing with its Navteq led us into the woods again, which made us lose an hour.
